May 19th is celebrated as World Hepatitis Day WorldWide. On this day as an awareness initiative Apollo Victor hospital conducted an awareness programme on Hepatitis B at the hospital. As a part of the programme informative Banners along with brochures were distributed to educate the patient about Hepatitis B.
During his address to the media, Dr. Jose Filipe Alvares, Consultant Gastroenterologist at Apollo Victor Hospital, said that there are about 350 million people in the world infected with Hepatitis B virus of which 40 million people are in India. Hepatitis B can present as asymptomatic carrier, acute Hepatitis, Chronic Hepatitis, Cirrhosis of Liver and even Cancer of the liver. This Virus can also lead to the involvement of the kidney.
